8 LinkedIn Mistakes That Hurt Your Growth

(And How to Fix Them)

Hey there, and Happy Saturday!

Starting the weekend off with a topic I covered this week.
Something I found inspiration in this week.

Now back to the topic of the hour:

I tackled this one with Norbert Bezzina. We spotted 8 common ones
→ and we’re fixing them for you.

Let’s break them down:

1. Writing for Everyone

Fix: Target a niche.
→ Speak to one group, not the whole world.

Our audience wants to feel special.

What better way than to craft our message in a way that feels just for them.

✅ Frame your writing like you’re chatting with a friend.

2. Posting but Not Engaging

Fix: Comment before and after posting.
→ This boosts your reach instantly.

I learned this one the hard way.

Early on before anyone knows you,
→ you need to comment and DM your creator peers A LOT.

Eventually the engagement you do will probably decrease
just in your efforts in keeping up with your
comments and DMs.

3. Ignoring DMs

Fix: DMs = real business.
→ Reply. Build trust. Grow fast.

I’m still guilty of this one to this day.

But it’s less about ignoring and more about being selective
with your time and attention once you have
floods of DMs coming it.

✅ You’ll learn to prioritize quickly!

4. No Hook in Your Post

Fix: The first line must grab attention.
→ Be bold. Create curiosity.

Without a hook, your post is basically dead on arrival.

You need to ignite curiosity.

You might feel like a carny
at the county fair at first but it get’s better.

Learn from the best and keep testing until
you find a framework that
works for you.

5. A Weak LinkedIn Profile

Fix: Your headline should be clear.
→ Tell people who you help and how.

Fill in all the holes and continue to refine it.

I’m still to this day refining my message on my profile.

Think of it like a landing page.

What do you do?
Who is it for?
Where should they go to get it?

✅ Start there.

Aaaand go!

6. Selling Too Soon

Fix: Give value first.
→ Share tips. Help people. Sell later.

If you never sell you won’t get sales.

If you always sell you also won’t get sales.

It’s a balance.

✅ Better to inform and help people and the sales will come more naturally.

7. Posting Randomly

Fix: Pick a schedule and stick to it.
→ 2x or 5x per week. Consistency wins.

I post twice per day but it’s not for everyone.
✅ The very minimum should be 3 times per week.

People want to know when to expect you.

They’ll become your fans after all.

8. Treating LinkedIn Like Other Platforms

Fix: Longer posts + real connections work here.
→ This isn’t Twitter.

LinkedIn definitely isn’t like other platforms (thank god).

Build those connections and relationships through
comments and eventually some
appreciation DMs.

This way you’ll be
well on your way to building an audience
who loves you and a crew of peers who want to see you win!

The bottom line?

LinkedIn is a magical place.

For building brand awareness.

For meeting great people (and potentially business partners).

And it’s a great place to grow the awareness of who you are.

It’s the surest way to set up
your brand for the
future.

Which of these have you been guilty of?

Catch you back here next week!

I appreciate you reading! 🙏
